Your Questions About Spirituality And Health

Susan asks…

How can you get good mental health?

i have horrible mental health but good spirituality, and looks i think but it seems like i should be put in like a white van taken to one of the white cushiony puff cloud places!!

What did you do to get good mental health?! :D

admin answers:

By horrible mental health, do you mean that you are very self critical of yourself inside your head? Stop it. Easy as that. Each time you catch yourself saying negative statements about yourself, say STOP. You can change your thoughts easily. Say some positive lines of a poem or song, say something good about yourself. Go for a walk, get physically busy for 10 minutes. And think, would you say such horrible negative things to others? No, then don`t say them to yourself. Think positive, and it will change your day. Enjoy cooking good healthy food. Go for walks. Read uplifting books. Help other people. No more negatives, life`s too short.

Your Questions About Spirituality Test

Sharon asks…

How does disability affect your spirituality?

Last time I got many positive responses as to wether God loves disabled people…my question now is how does disability affect your spirituality?

In my case I am still confused about God’s love speaking strictly in my perspective(so please don’t judge me)and I feel I am not very spiritual coz though i don’t doubt God exists ,forgive my foolishness… but I feel disability is a punishment in a way and to me it looks a really big one.Disability is disability and though it’s physical severity makes a relative difference from individual to individual.Psychologically i think the weight is still the same

I agree that disability can teach the individual affected as well as all those around him a few lessons in life because it can be a test of character and spirit but when I think about it it does not ipso facto always bring one closer to God or being good,in fact it can drive someone in the opposite direction through doubt and self loathing

What are your thoughts about this

admin answers:

Like others here, I am spiritual, but not religious. I do not see disability as a punishment or a burden, it is just a difference I have to deal with. I do believe that I was created just as perfectly as those whose bodies look and work more typically.
My differences are just another way of being. This might be why I am not more conventionally religious, because I do not believe I can or need to be healed. I see people with disabilities as whole beings just the way they are, without need of cure or miracle. I’ll keep my broken brain and twisted body, give me a ramp and an accessible van!

Sandra asks…

Science -vs- Spirituality?

Science is a way of testing something, getting a result & through means of priviously-rendered knowledge, predicting what should happen when the subject is tested a 2nd time. Spirituality is somewhat different, however… You cannot just “predict” that just because your prayers were answered the 1st time then the next time you ask God/idol/Jesus/sky/FSM then you will get the same results. I’m a believer every other week, and an Atheists spuratically…. Should I feel bad for being obsessed with science and not really getting spirituality/religion? O.o what do you think personally?

admin answers:

Science and religion go hand in hand even tho many would disagree. It was that way in the very beginning. Some can predict and some just have hope their prayers will be answered. Don’t worry in time the truth will come to you. Keep on researching. Gather evidence.

Your Questions About Spirituality

Mandy asks…

How do you make your spirituality a part of each day as a pagan?

How do you make your spirituality a part of each day?

admin answers:

Easy – my path is about reducing my impact on the physical, social and natural environments.

So my volunteering and other acts focus on this. Worked out I do volunteer 7 days a fortnight in three different organisations.

Your Questions About Spirituality In Nursing

Mark asks…

Where to go from here?

I’m leaving the Christian faith. All my family is Christian, and all my friends are too. Basically I’ve built my life around this belief system, and I don’t know how to completely escape it. I’m not necessarily leaving some of the Christian principles- love your neighbor, serving others, etc. I’m in nursing school and aspire to help people for the rest of my life. I truly do love my family and friends, and I adhere to a lot of the teachings of Christ, but not his divinity. I don’t believe the bible is the inspired word of God, and I don’t believe people are going to hell because they don’t believe in Jesus. I’m taking a world religions course and I just don’t see how this could ever be the truth. There is a beautiful, diverse world, and Christianity is far to exclusive for me. I just don’t know how to even start this process- everyone thinks I’m a Christian. How do I tell the world I’m not?

Thanks for your insight :)

Also, if you’re wondering what I am now if not Christian… I’m much more into spirituality, and I think what I learned from Buddhism makes a lot of sense. I’m not sure if I believe in God, and I don’t think humans really have access to ever knowing what’s beyond this life. All we can truly know is the present- and that’s where I want to be.

You may want to look into Unitarian Universalism.

Your Questions About Spirituality Quotes

Maria asks…

Is this quote applicable to religion and/or spirituality?

“The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them.”
-Mark Twain

It often comes to mind when I browse R&S. Is it just me?

admin answers:

It is very edifying (learn, instruct, achieve knowledge) to answer the many questions, as the benefit is for both sides, not only those who ask the question.

Questioners are seeking references, and it is a mistake not to provide proper sources. Opinions, on the other hand, are worth just exactly what is paid for them. Only researched evidence has value.

The question is, “Why aren’t the Answers backed up with quotations and the sources given?” There still are such valuable places as libraries (of which “wikipedia” is NOT ONE OF THEM).

Your Questions About Spirituality And Practice

Ken asks…

What do you think of new age spirituality?

The New Age (also known as the New Age Movement, New Age spirituality, and Cosmic Humanism) is a decentralized Western social and spiritual movement that seeks “Universal Truth” and the attainment of the highest individual human potential. It combines aspects of cosmology, astrology, esotericism, alternative medicine, music, collectivism, sustainability, and nature. New Age spirituality is characterized by an individual approach to spiritual practices and philosophies, while rejecting religious doctrine and dogma.

The New Age Movement includes elements of older spiritual and religious traditions ranging from atheism and monotheism through classical pantheism, naturalistic pantheism, and panentheism to polytheism combined with science and Gaia philosophy: particularly archaeoastronomy, astronomy, ecology, environmentalism, the Gaia hypothesis, psychology, and physics. New Age practices and philosophies sometimes draw inspiration from major world religions: Buddhism, Chinese folk religion, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism; with particularly strong influences from East Asian religions, Gnosticism, Neopaganism, New Thought, Spiritualism, Theosophy, Universalism, and Western esotericism.[2] Additional phrases which may refer to the New Age Movement include All is One[3] and Mind-Body-Spirit.[1]

The modern New Age Movement emerged as a distinct lifestyle from the late 1960s through the early 1970s, although elements can be traced back to the 19th and early 20th centuries. It gained momentum in the 1980s and strengthened with the Harmonic Convergence event in 1987. Diverse individuals from around the world practice New Age spirituality.

admin answers:

There is only one way to God and that is through Jesus Christ. There is no harmony in blending all the world’s religions into one big kumbaya. It doesn’t work that way.

Check out a couple of these books; one is a novel (yet frighteningly appropriate for the times we live in, even though it was written over a decade ago):

Seal of Gaia by Marlin Maddoux

http://www.amazon.com/Seal-Gaia-Marlin-Maddoux/dp/0849937159

and non-fiction:

The Beautiful Side of Evil by Johanna Michaelsen

http://www.amazon.com/Beautiful-Side-Evil-Johanna-Michaelsen/dp/0890813221

The New Age Movement is a brilliant scheme of Satan to deceive non-believers and those who are not strong in their Christian faith. Oprah Winfrey is falling prey to this scheme while promoting false-religion bestsellers like A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle and The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.

None of us are gods – there is only one true God and He is the Creator of all things. We were designed and created to have an intimate relationship with Him, but we are nowhere near His level.

“Spirit guides” are actually demons in disguise. Gaia (“mother earth”) worship puts focus on praising nature instead of the God who created it.

Your Questions About Spirituality And Health

Donald asks…

Spirituality and Mental/Physical Health?? Need a research paper topic!!?

I’m looking for a research paper topic, and I am looking at the relationship that spirituality plays with mental and physical health. What’s could I research on this topic?

admin answers:

You could look into witchcraft… It was viewed for many centuries as ‘medicinal’ in many ways, and many of us still practice for those reasons. You could look into the history of medicine, and how even Hippocrates (yes, the one that coined the ‘hippocratic oath’) expected his students to study and understand the zodiac, to help them with healing. ;)

Just a thought. Good luck with your paper! ;)
